A dedicated bike wash — for your ride and for the forest

Switi Hoso provides a hose and wash area just for bikes, so you can clean up the moment you get back. It's a small habit that protects both the places you ride and the bike you ride on.

🌿 Stop the spread of invasive species & pathogens

Mud packed in tires, drivetrains, and frames can carry seeds of invasive plants and the spores of forest diseases such as Sudden Oak Death from one trail system to the next. Washing down after every ride — and before heading to a new area — helps keep Sonoma's redwood, bay, and oak forests healthy for everyone who comes after you.

🔧 Prevent corrosion & mechanical wear

Coastal fog, salt air, and grit are hard on components. A quick rinse keeps sand out of your chain, cassette, pivots, and brakes, reduces premature wear, and helps suspension seals and bearings last. Your bike will shift better tomorrow — and you'll spend vacation time riding, not repairing.

Step 1

Mountain Biking

World-class, legal mountain biking waits about 20 minutes north of Switi Hoso in Sonoma Coast State Park.

The adventure begins on Willow Creek Road, which starts as quiet pavement winding past wetlands and old farmland before turning to dirt and climbing into a second-growth redwood forest. Here the air cools, ferns carpet the hillsides, bay laurel scents the trail, and springs and creeks trickle alongside you. From there, several loops branch into the park — pick a short scenic spin or commit to a full day in the hills.

Not a rider in the group? Willow Creek Road also makes a lovely hike. Most of the singletrack in this area is designated bikes-only, so hikers should stick to the road. Please stay on legal trails and give way to wildlife.

Step 2

Road Biking

Prefer skinny tires? West Sonoma County is road-cycling royalty. The Santa Rosa Cycling Club rides two legendary coastal routes that are an easy drive — or a spirited warm-up — from Switi Hoso.

Coleman Valley Road Loop

≈ 34 milesPunchy climbsStart: Occidental

Roll out of Occidental through the redwoods, drop to the Russian River, then follow Highway 1 along the ocean. The showpiece is the Coleman Valley climb from the coast: short, steep ramps over 10% before the road eases into open, wind-swept ranchland. Up top, the ridge serves sweeping Pacific and hill-country views before you glide back to Occidental.

Bonus: Coleman Valley Road meets Highway 1 just a few miles north of Bodega Bay, so you can climb it straight from your stay.

Cazadero & King Ridge Loop

≈ 55 milesLong, sustained climbsStart: Monte Rio / Duncans Mills

An iconic big day out. Pedal into the deep forest around tiny Cazadero, then take on King Ridge Road's long, steep ascents on narrow, remote lanes with very little traffic. High-ridge views reward the effort before the loop passes Hauser Bridge and Seaview Road, plunges back to the coast on Highway 1, and returns inland along the river.

Coastal roads here are narrow and often foggy — bring lights, a wind layer, and plenty of water, and check conditions before you go. When you get back, the wash hose is waiting to rinse off the road grime and salt spray.
